how to block the upgrade of a package

Hi all, I'm running a brand new Hardy Heron box.
I would like to know how can I do in order to DO NOT UPGRADE a package to the proposed one.

I don't wont to install firefox 3.0 and keep the 2.X series.

    thanks to all

The easiest way is to uncheck that package in adept or in my case synaptic before upgrading.

      You could pin version:

You could also downgrade packages (if you already installed unwanted version)
