I used one of the references to build a Live Kubuntu flash drive (on 1 GB thumb drive). It works just like a Live Kubuntu CD and can be used to install Kubuntu to a PC's hard drives (internal or external), as I tested it and it did great.

I used the tutorial:

I've used the same one. Did great! Use that USB drive every time I have a **That Other OS** go down. Boot up, rescue data and unfortunately rescue other OS. Great tutorial!!

Neat. I like that he doesn't use a lot of Hokus-Pokus packaged black-box trickery. It's all there for you to see (though parts of it are a bit "involved" at an intermediate CLI level). PendriveLinux is good, but sometimes too black-box for me, too much magic.

Didn't see anything I'd change. Like the GRUB focus. Since that is the primary boot loader for *buntus, that's
perfect!

I also had this site as a reference. Mostly those who are new to linux and are comfortable with Windows but
want to move on and "safely".

I thought I saw a Persistant with 7.10 at pendrivelinux, too.

I'm in Live K7.10 Flash Drive right now, and just tested the obvious:
You can use a second USB flash drive to store your data while working Live. My data UFD automounted upon connecting it, and after that, it's the usual thing "saving as" to "Storage" media and selecting it. If it did not automount, you could set that up in Disks & Filesystems or at Konsole mount it. Gotta be careful not to accidentally unplug the Live Flash Drive that's in the same connector bay!
