Make Gnome apps use KDE themes?

I was trying to find a fix for making Gnome apps use the KDE theme. There is an option in Kcontrol to make gtk apps use my KDE style, but it never works. An example: I always use Synaptic instead of Adept. Synaptic always looks like poo after looking at the KDE style for a while. Is there any fix for this?

Hmm - do you have gtk-qt-engine installed ?
The GTK-Qt Theme Engine (also known as gtk-qt-engine) is a GTK 2 theme engine that calls Qt to do the actual drawing. This makes your GTK 2 applications look almost like real Qt applications and gives you a more unified desktop experience.

I checked in Synaptic, and it is installed. I am testing 7.10, so it may be a bug. I had this working in Feisty. When I try to set the options in Kcontrol it just resets itself. I will wait awhile and see if something changes.
