I started this thread following various members' posts regarding glxgears performance. On my desktop I have an ATI X1600 Pro so I was quite aware of ATI's general limitations in linux when I bought my Toshiba A200-14D laptop. One of the requirements for it was to have a decent non-ati card, and Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 sounded more than just decent. Vista (which came preinstalled) runs just fine with Aero, yet I was expecting more out of Kubuntu now. I first installed nvidia-glx-new, then i thought to try envy (which i did, and the install went without issues), yet when I ran glxgears it showed just about 1500fps. I tried (out of curiosity) compiz-fusion and, though it itself ran smoothly, it did slow down many apps; glxgears would now show 150fps. I do not know whether glxgears is a good benchmarking utility, yet when one sees results that go towards 10000fps, one begins to wonder...
So basically what I would like to know is whether a score of 1500fps in glxgears is what I should expect running this video card in a typical, out-of-the-box install KDE install, without any customization, or there might be something I overlooked when setting the drivers up.
