doing one thing at a time is a pain how can i make it so i can do multiple things at a time with the package manager

You can select multiple programs to be installed in one go and they will be installed one after the other. What you can't do is run multiple package managers at the same time. The package manager locks the package database when it is running to ensure system integrity and stability. This is how things work in binary distros (DEB and RPM based).
