Scenario: Mac Mini PPC with Virtual PC for MAC 7.02 running
XP and Kunbuntu Linux Virtual Machines under
OS X….ordinarily one sets VPC to shared Networking
And Virtual Switch to Built-in Ethernet which works fine.
My setup has the network connection on the Host Mac
Connected by Airport to a Linksys router.
To experiment with networking the Virtual Machines I wanted them
NOT to use shared networking setting so they would have distinct
Addresses….
On the XP machine and Linux machine set Networking Setting to
VIRTUAL SWITCH
Set Virtual Switch Setting to DEFAULT (since going out over
Airport not Ethernet…it will warn you this does/may not work…
ignore the warning)
On the Mac, for necessary information, open,
About this Mac/more info
then go down to
Network
UNDER AIRPORT section copy (my examples follow)
IPv4: Addresses: 192.168.1.100
Subnet Masks: 255.255.255.0
Server Identifier: 192.168.1.1
UNDER LOCATIONS section (use the airport named location you are using)
DNS: Server Addresses: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
ON XP Virtual Machine
START/Settings/Network Connections/
Open,
Local Area Connection/General/Properties
then Double click
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Select, Obtain an IP address automatically
Select, Use the following DNS server Addresses:
Put in 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220 (from above, Locations)
close and restart.
The resulting XP settings are (in case you go manual)
FROM AIRPORT( above)
192.168.1.102 IP address (add two to 192.168.1.100)
255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask
192.168.1.1 default gateway
192.168.1.1 DHCP Server
FROM LOCATIONS (above)
208.67.222.222 DNS Server
208.67.220.220
ON Kubuntu Machine
Use Zero Configuration
And it will wind up with an IP Address 192.168.1.103
Or so.
Good luck.
AIRPORT connect on MAC OS X >Open Internet Connect and connect both Airport
and 802.1x
