    Tool needed

    HI,

The Amarok Music player lists / presents all the .mp3 files from the local collection,
to click upon the wish to listen ones.

Similarly, I'm looking for a program / tool that lists the files of a given or chosen extension, and will open it from that interface.

I need this coz I've a lot of following extension files :

    1. .PDF
    2. .DOC
    3. .ZIP
    4. .TAR
    5. .torrent
    6. .CHM

The tool (if its there) will help me, to access a particular file like we do in Amarok ,( saves time) and will be an alternative to the traditional approach of File Manager.

    Thanks,
    Tuxfun.

[FYI : i've also posted the same post in ubuntu forums, under general help,
sub : Tool that helps view, Collection =>Lists]

Why not just use Konqueror? You can order the files by type, then right click on them to launch in the program that you designate. Am I misunderstanding what you want to do?

I am having 5 drives on my system,

      - and the extension files like pdf, doc are of different subject matters
      - and are stored randomly as per the space availability on all the drives
      - and are at various levels ( 6, 6.5,7, 7.4, 8th child) of the parent folder

There will be more adding up, to the collection on daily basis

I'm looking for a tool, that will store like the media library or collections and the first interface will help to access the needful. I hope its giving the big picture.

[ more examples will be like :
      1. Site Map
      2. Book TOC or INDEX ]

      Thanks
      Tuxfun.

Sounds like you need something like Beagle (in the repos) - this is a little different from what you mention in that it also does a full-text search of the files it indexes, but will also search filename.

Why search for the type/name of the file when you could search for that or the content?

Yes, beagle is the answer. But I'd install Kerry. It's a kde front-end to Beryl with a nice (IMHO) interface. Also it'll take care of installing beagle and starting it when you log in.

          Javier (kerry adict).
