At home, I have a linux machine with all of my videos and recently I got an user/pass protected FTP server running on it.
So last night I was at a friend's house (away from home) and I decided to test out my FTP with my laptop (running Kubuntu Edgy). I connected to my FTP server with Konqueror, entered in my user/pass, and I was in. I had access to everything!
I tried to just open and play a video just like that, streaming it across the net, using Xine, and I could see it tried to buffer, but nothing.. I couldn't get it to stream. To make sure the connection was working properly, I copy/pasted a video to my laptop. It was working, the download was only going at about 40KBytes/s constant (on account of my bad upload speed at home).
Is there anything I can do to get these videos of mine to stream? Transcoding-type streams are out of the question, since my linux server isn't nearly good enough to do that.
