Arson is an older, but still nice burning app, KDE based, and is available via adept. Also search in Adept for 'burn' and you will see quite a few alternatives, though many are for the command line, there are still a number og graphical programs available if Universe/multiverse are enabled.

gnomebaker works fine in Kubuntu -- does not bring a lot of gnome support with it when you install from Adept.

You can try Brasero. "Brasero is yet another application to burn CD/DVD for the gnome desktop. It is designed to be as simple as possible and has some unique features to enable users to create their discs easily and quickly."

Only GTK, if I'm not mistaken. Check dependencies.

Just wondering, why is K3B not working for you? Why do you need an alternative?

I see, unable to format a re-writable DV with 1.0. I don't have any discs handy so i can't test it on mine, has anyone else here tried to duplicate the problem?

but note that all these GUI programs use the same backends, so you may still experience these problems

                      Maybe its your media

I stopped buying re-writable discs because I had so many problem,
but give Arson (KDE app) or gnomebaker a try anyway

                        Re: alternative k3b

OK, I was able to find an unused RW DVD in my pile. I just used it to back up my home directory with K3B. K3B 1.0 in Feisty had no problem formating the disc or copying the date. This was a TDK brand disc. So I don't think K3B is your problem.

If you don't mind cli apps, try bashburn. Just do a google search. Installation is easy and the required dependencies should be on your box already.
