I recently decided to try going with KDE since I really like the look of Kubuntu. I've been running Ubuntu Edgy with Beryl for a few weeks and it's been great. When I choose to run a KDE session, Beryl will not load. It tries to, but then I lose my windows borders and such. Anyone know off hand what settings commonly need to be changed for Beryl to run in a KDE environment instead of gnome/xgl?

Re: KDE/Gnome question
You're suffering from a "Windows Decorator" problem. I'm away from my beloved Kubuntu box and stuck in the office on WinXP, so I can't provide the step-by-step, but here's what you need to do:
1. Make sure you have Emerald installed -- use Adept Manager and get it from the repos if you don't have it installed.
2. Use Beryl Manager (the red gem on your toolbar or the System Menu item of the same name) and set the "Window Decorations" to Emerald. Click "reload Windows Decorator" just to be double-certain.
3. Use Beryl Manager and check the "Window Manager", and make sure it is set to Beryl. Click "reload Window Manager" to be double-certain.
On my Kubuntu Edgy system, with Nividia video card, these settings result in Beryl working great. The only bug is that it does not always reload Beryl as the Window Manager on bootup -- sometimes I have to open the Beryl Manager and set it after I've logged on.
Hope this helps!
