Upgrade to 20.04 Errors

    Hi all,
I hope its okay to ask a Neon question here?

Ran the standard upgrade, from 18.04, after initial required updates/upgrades.

    It ran okay to a point then I got;

    Then

I ran the upgrade again, I get ...

Attempting upgrades on the terminal gives

    sudo pkcon update:

Fatal error: WARNING: You are trying to remove the following essential packages: libapt-pkg5.0 (due to apt)

    Can anyone advise please?

    Thanks.

    Edit

    This ...

Fatal error: WARNING: You are trying to remove the following essential packages: libapt-pkg5.0 (due to apt)

    Should just be this ..

Fatal error: WARNING: You are trying to remove the following essential packages: libapt-pkg5.0

Just Use Apt*, it gives better info

Try these, and paste the output if you see errors:

          sudo apt install -f

          sudo dpkg --configure -a

          then try
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade

hopefully this will give us better and useful info.

          * The only reason Neon pushes pkcon is due to people not familiar with the correct usage of apt in an Ubuntu based system. There are slight differences between Ubuntu and Debian in how it works, and using it in Debian's manner will at some point keep one from getting all package updates. Using apt properly WILL NOT harm your system. Pkcon is actually using apt/dpkg to do the actual work.

            Sweet as a nut ...

            Yes, thank you @claydoh.
Ran those commands and the update, upgrade, and full dist upgrade ran perfectly.

            Many thanks.

Linux/Ubuntu/KDE/Neon are really very wonderful things.

            Best wishes to all.
