I had been away from Linux for over a year. I went through a lot last year and did not have a good enough WiFi connection to even download a distro to install. A neighbor let me borrow a USB WiFi adapter and I was back in business! I have since purchased one that seems to work just fine. I love the clean modern look of KDE and how light on resources it is these days. I picked KDE neon for my HP desktop and could not be happier! The iso size was a factor since I am on public WiFi and I added the apps I liked a little at a time. I liked the vanilla install and the few included apps were ones I liked anyway.
I tinkered a little, changed to an alternate menu, changed the task manager to icons only task manager, sped up animation speed a bit, and went with the breeze light theme. It only took minutes to make it my own and it looks really nice! I installed Calligra Office because it just seemed easier at the time. Turns out I really like it! I don't remember it being so good in the past but it sure is nice now! I went with Clementine for music, always thought it was good! I added KTorrent, Muon and UBlock Origin to Firefox. Everything works perfect! I did not realize how much I missed being a Linux user until I did this install!
Previously, I had been using my Chromebook, phone and a newer Windows laptop that does not yet have full Linux support. The phone is small, the Chromebook comes stock with too many annoying ads, and the Windows laptop is a nightmare to update! KDE neon had 108 updates the other day and updated just fine using somewhat slow public WiFi. The KDE integration for Firefox is outstanding too! I get knocked off after an hour and a half or so and the KDE integration notifies me to log on, it's great! I love the look and feel of KDE and I am once again a very happy Linux user!
