    Neon kernel

    Not particularly exciting or interesting news, but today's update (neon 5.17 Testing) jumped from kernel 5.0.0-37 to 5.3.0-26.

    Oddly my two recent fresh installs of User Edition got it at least a few weeks ago.

    The changelogs shows Ubuntu migrating this from edge to the normal hwe in December
    http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changel...04.1/changelog

    I wonder why you didn't get it already. Maybe a staggered push out to all the mirrors?

      No-eyed-deer. I last updated it two days ago.
      Still, I just updated K20.04 and that moved from 5.3.0-24 to 5.4.0-9

      Funny thing is, on neon... it was a big update, even for Testing. Almost 1 gig to download.
      On the first reboot - restart, to check the kernels in rEFInd - nothing (apparently) changed.
      On the second one - shutdown, I left it and it's a box - it lost a lot of settings. Wallpaper, panel entries... I even can't get the clock back to displaying the date in English, whatever I try.

      I'll try a cold boot on 20.04 (I'm writing this from it) and see what happens there.

        I think Neon Testing got the Plasma 5.18 Beta, which might explain a big download. I imagine some possible missing packages or a general screw-up of some sort.

          Hmmm.
          Even 20.04 seems to suffer from some development buglets.
          Wallpaper, analog clock and panel seem OK, but the digital clock in the tray... the date is in Spanish. It was in English before. And I can't get it back to English :·/

          But.
          Code:
          ~$ locale
          LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
          LANGUAGE=en_US
          LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8"
          LC_NUMERIC=en_GB.UTF-8
          [B]LC_TIME=es_ES.UTF-8[/B]
          LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8"
          LC_MONETARY=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8"
          LC_PAPER=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_NAME=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_ADDRESS=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_TELEPHONE=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_MEASUREMENT=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_IDENTIFICATION=es_ES.UTF-8
          LC_ALL=
          Which also makes me wonder: why do LC_CTYPE, LC_COLLATE and LC_MESSAGES have quotes (" ") and the others don't?
          I'm sure it will be the same on neon.

          [AH] (missed your last post, was writing) - Yes, Neon has 5.17.90 - which is 5.18 beta, I guess - but then, so has 20.04 :·)

            Funnier and funnier.
            I just checked the calendar. The date in in Spanish, the month in English :·)

              Anyway. I edited /etc/default/locale (on neon) and the date is fixed. For the moment.
