Found the answer in the cold light of day!
Have not used K3b for several years but always without problem. Now it reports "cdrecord has no permission to open device" and I seem to recall it doing that in the old days.
So into Settings - Programs - Permissions where current ones are 0755 and the change option is 4710 + 750 for growisofs. Change Permissions bar is highlighted so select it expecting them to change - except that brings up
"Unable to execute the action; DBus Backend error: service start org.kde.k3b failed; Cannot launch daemon, file not found or permissions invalid."
This is the same message I get runiing K3b from a root console.
Locate org.kde.k3b finds five files but they are all org.kde.k3b.etcetera.
Solution would be much appreciated thanks.
