So, please, tell me, or show me, how you setup the VM, and what did you select when you setup the partitioning?

If no one else is experiencing what I am, then I must be doing something that isn't what others are doing, even though what I'm doing is exactly what I've been doing with my VMs.

Well, I sussed it out. Given that I did, I am convinced that there is a significant change in the latest KDE neon that wasn't present in the one I used in February (neon-user-20240228-1346.iso) to install as a VM on my iMac. In that install, I selected gpt for the partition table, created an 8 MiB unformatted partition with the bios-grub flag, and a root partition. Nothing else.

Now, with the latest KDE neon (neon-user-20241010-1519.iso), in order to get a booting system, I selected gpt for the partition table, created a 512 MiB /boot/efi fat32 partition with the boot flag, and a root partition.

This configuration boots as it should.

So, again, my earlier this year install of KDE neon didn't require a /boot/efi partition, but the latest does.

There is a major issue with my shinny KDE neon User Edition VM. When it is idle for 5 minutes (default), the screen is locked and the desktop goes black. Nothing I do at the keyboard brings the Desktop back. I have to power down the VM, wait some seconds, and relaunch it.

KDE neon 6.2 certainly contains more anomalous behavior issues (I'm being polite and not saying bugs) than I've ever experienced using this OS.

You mean KDE neon Noble 24.04? aka Ubuntu 24.04 + neon sources for Plasma.

Never saw anything like that here, real hardware or VMs. I think your Virtualbox hates you lately, to be honest
