    Project Banana

An interesting development, from this year's Akademy summit

    https://www.youtube.com/live/gTxRaBEUe-I?t=25936s
    https://conf.kde.org/event/6/contributions/202/

A bit long but informative. Worth a watch if one is interested.
You old timers probably won't like it, though.
No idea if this is an addition or replacement for neon. But then again, the OG Project Neon didn't start as a distro/respin.

"basically it is Steam OS" aka Arch-based image based, at least for the proof-of concept.

I will add links once I have any. The protoype url in the slide is not readable in YouTube, so I will see if I can find the slides.

Talking of Arch, I'm looking at CachyOS as something I'd like to try...

Harald used Arch as the proof of concept, mainly because it has more pristine stuff to build from (less modified), but the overall concept is not very different from Fedora kinoite - a/b images, an 'overlay' for adding stuff to the core OS, etc.

I ran this for a while on my last Chromebook, and it was overall not really overly complex-- unless one wanted it to be. I quite enjoyed it. I don't have a Steam Deck (dammit!) to compare things, but I have a feeling a lot of new Linux users are coming from there, and will have a bit of a leg up on us old farts in some ways.

I don't game so don't use Steam, I only fly the Linux native version of X-Plane. I hear CachyOS
can give your system a bit of a speed burst over other distros.

Power Up Your Computing with Robust Kernel Support

CachyOS utilizes the BORE Scheduler for better interactivity, and offers a variety of scheduler options including EEVDF, sched-ext, ECHO, and RT. All kernels are compiled with optimized x86-64-v3, x86-64-v4, Zen4 instructions and LTO to be optimized for your CPU.

          Ahhhh buzzwords and claims
This isn't an immutable system, tho.

In my own experience, one's set of 'optimizations" works for theee but not necessarily for meee
these things do add ....ahem... fun bits of extra configurations and dials to twirl
