    [RESOLVED] Recent Updates Breaks KDENLIVE

    As the Subject says. I noted it was to be removed but allowed it since it was the only item.

    However, since then I cannot get it to install for the below reason.

    I've searched and cannot find a way to force install it or anything. The other packages the are KDENLIVE are there, just cannot get the main package to install.

    Anyone have a direction I can try?

    Code:
    The following packages have unmet dependencies:
     kf6-kfilemetadata : Depends: libtag1v5-vanilla (>= 1.13.1) but 1.11.1+dfsg.1-3ubuntu3 is to be installed

    Yes correct your sources.list file to stop using two year old packages and use the now current packages for it to install.

    https://packages.ubuntu.com/search?k...tag1v5-vanilla

    Shows the package version it wants to install is from the 22.04 whereas the 24.04 has the version that is needed, in short your sources.list is a mess of different versions of the software being included in it for it to even get into this state. The package you want installs just fine on the Kubuntu 24.04 without the kf6-kfilemetadata package at all. That package is for KDE 6 not the version 5 in Kubuntu.

      Actually, no, MoonRise 's sources ARE correct.

      Note this post is in the KDE neon section, which is based on Ubuntu 22.04, so the "old" libtag version is actually valid.
      And so is the version neon updates it to.

      Code:
      $ apt policy libtag1v5-vanilla
      libtag1v5-vanilla:
        Installed: 1.13.1-1+22.04+jammy+release+build1

      Good lord I need to get my neon stuff set up, lol. I just tried to do an apt policy on my Fedora laptop (installed for reasons)

        It installs for me, at least here on a VM.
        Have you done the usual update check beforehand, etc?

        You aren't using a PPA or anything for kdenlive, are you? neon doesn't need it, since it keeps KDE software current.
        That it wants the stock ubuntu version either means the apt database is out of date (not as likely since you just had some updates) or more likely the kdenlive package specifically wants this version. The PPA version for Jammy could definitely want this.

        So let's find out:

        Code:
        $ apt policy kdenlive

        Only no native repos I have are for Strawberry and ProtonVPN and Steam. Maybe one of those is causing that.

        I'll check the above commands to see if it gives me further clues.

          Those shouldn't be causing conflicts.

          Also try sudo apt -f install

          Is your install an upgrade from 20.04 by any chance?

          If so, report if you have any files in /etc/apt/preferences.d/ that begin with '98'.

            Thanks for the lead. Ran the above and all similar. So I decided to simulate the install of libtag1v5-vanilla. Took a while to scan all the this is broken because of but hit on Strawberry being broken, so I suspect that. Would make sense on that because systems I don't have that on are on fine, just the two that have Strawberry. May just uninstall it as I don't use it much if at all. I always wind up using VLC.

                Wow! Amarok is back!!? Might do that.

                However, Strawberry wasn't the issue. The more I dig down the worse it gets. For some reason my system is stuck on that old version of libtag1v5-vanilla. If I try to force it, it want's to uninstall a good bit although there are a lot of depends that would say it shouldn't. Everything works great! Just not KDENLive. Which I know it is fine because a new install I have elswhere that is up to date has KdenLive and the most recent version of libtag1v5-vanilla. Just really strange.

                  So is this system an upgrade from 20.04, or fairly old?

                  If so, do you have a file /etc/apt/preferences.d/98-jammy-overrides, or any file starting with '98' instead of '99'?

                    It isn't. But it was a relatively new image about 6 months before they released Plasma 6.0 and I had horrible update issues at that point. Been fine until recent. I didn't find anything under APT that started with 98-. I'll just plan on waiting until they release the new Base image. With the release of Plasma 6.1, I'm sure they have their hands busy.

                      So looking at the APT lists, I see I have an entry for UbuntuESMApps. Not sure why that is there. I don't remember using that for anything. Wonder if that is causing things to hang? It's under /etc/apt/preferences.d

                        Take a look at the contents of /etc/apt/preferences.d/ubuntu-pro-esm-apps

                        Code:
                        # This file is used by Ubuntu Pro and supplied by the ubuntu-pro-client
                        # package. It has no effect if Ubuntu Pro services are not in use since no
                        # other apt repositories are expected to match o=UbuntuESMApps.
                        #
                        # Pin esm-apps packages to a slightly higher value than the default,
                        # so those are preferred over a non-ESM package from the archive when the
                        # service is enabled.
                        So, if you haven't registered for Ubuntu Pro services, nothing happening here.
                        Windows no longer obstructs my view.
                        Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

                          Well, so, decided to go through with 6.1. Seemed to go well but booted into black screen with mouse and a functioning Krunner. Glad it worked as I was able to then poke around in Konsole and other areas to see what was going on. Long story short, sudo apt autoremove and then a lot of sudo apt update and sudo full-upgrade. After a while everything now seems to line up. I even have KDENLive back in. I guess the autoremove here was key.

                          Only issue being reported by apt is:

                          Code:
                          The following packages have been kept back:
                            python3-update-manager update-manager-core

                          Thanks. Just sound boarding and reading everyone's feedback actually helped.
