    Riddle me this... Virtualbox connection speeds?

    Why do I get drastically faster connection speeds via my Virtualbox systems than I do from my main install. Afterall, the virtual systems have to go through my main setup.

    Main system: KDE Neon User Edition. D/L speeds @ 25-30Mbps.
    Virtual Windows 7, Manjaro, Ubuntu Mate: 50-70Mbps.

    Code:
    [FONT=monospace][COLOR=#000000]*-network [/COLOR]
                 description: Wireless interface
                 product: Centrino Wireless-N 2230
                 vendor: Intel Corporation
                 physical id: 0
                 bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0

    That's clearly impossible and you must be mistaken

    Actual download speeds could be constrained by other factors than the network - such as writing to a slow disk. If you're downloading to an NTFS partition, my experience is the Linux drivers can be quite slow. Also if the guest is writing to an SSD, that will be massively faster than a spinning disk!

    Is it a bridged or NAT setup?
    I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

      Bridged,

        So potential the guest wifi driver has parameters allowing higher bit rates than the host. No, wait, a bridged adapter looks like Ethernet to the guest ... so maybe VirtualBox is doing something ... probably not.

        What about the disk / filesystem types?

          Until yesterday everything took place on an SSD using Ext4. As of yesterday, I have moved a few folders (Downloads, Documents, Music) to a regular spinning HDD however, the differences were there before and remain after. I am going strictly by Speakeasy Speed Test results.
