Using the same ISO used for the first install? Was it checksummed?

I have two neon-devedition-gitstable-20161102-1047-amd64 iso files which have the same checksum BUT this differs from the checksum given for the files at https://neon.kde.org/download.

Am I to assume that there is a fault in these source files. I have a fibre connection to my house and the network plan that I am on is 20Mbps up and 50Mbps down. I do not think that is at fault. I might have another go when I see the next one after 02-Nov-2016.

I would download the latest ISO and be sure to check its sum to make sure the download is good before I closed the web page.

Thanks acheron for that advice. I did it on both Laptops that had KDE Neon and it certainly removed the package problems. It also solved the problem that I was having with Configure Desktop not working.

The only problem that I had was on my Laptop with Kontact. It would not start. It also resulted in a new list of package problems, ie

Because I had this problem, I decided to do a fresh install of neon-useredition-20161103-1018-amd64.iso on both Laptops. I have now completed this and installed all applications and Kontact works on my Laptop and as well as Configure Desktop.

So I am now very happy with the end result.

I didn't give any advice to use one edition or another.

              Just purely an observation.

                As long as it takes

My Debian Unstable installation had been acting up for almost a week; booting into KDE would give me an unresponsive desktop for about five seconds then it'd go black with a cursor that didn't do anything. Before the screen went black my panel was missing, right-clicking the desktop did nothing and krunner would accept input but wouldn't execute anything so I'd been using my fluxbox installation for about the past five days.

This morning's updates seem to have resolved the issue although I wasn't able to test thoroughly because work. I upgraded from within fluxbox, logged out and into Plasma5 and the desktop appeared to be stable for the two minutes or so I played with it. I did leave KDE running when I left for work as things appear to be reasonably stable - conky worked, I had a panel and krunner was working as expected.

If packages are held back there's usually a reason; most of the time that reason is that not all the dependencies required are finished yet, Give it another day or so - like I said, mine decided to straighten up and act right this morning - or at least I'm pretty sure it did

                cheers -

edit: ps - you're doing the right thing. If apt offers to break your system the best thing you can do is wait until it no longer offers to break your system

Don't know if the applications are available in your distribution but I run apt-listbugs and apt-listchanges since I run a development distribution. I have apt-listbugs configured to show important and higher bugs instead of the default critical and higher; I get a little more information but apt will let me know if any package it proposes to install has an important or higher bug filed against it.

I imagine you got hit by this bug I was tracking on the mailing lists

Yup - that looks like the problem. I was blaming kwin but found no bugs that looked like mine; I never thought to look at plasma-workspace. Appears to be fixed in Sid, but as mentioned I only tested for a couple minutes.

Thanks for the info - I was pretty sure I wasn't the only one experiencing the problem; found one more on the KDE forums that sounded like this bug.

+1 on the user edition, NoWorries

Neon may not be a distro, but what ever it is, it is the best Linux I've ever installed since I began using Linux in May of 1998.
When my Integrated NVidia 650M behaves as if it were the primary GPU and I get 200 fps on Minecraft, SageMath runs like a champ, and FireFox loads every page in a fraction of a second (with some tweaks) I am one happy camper!

From what you are experiencing, it seems as though you are using KDE Neon stable. To fix this without a re-install you could change to the unstable option and do a
                          Code:
sudo apt update; sudo apt full-upgrade
                          .

If you are using Kontact you may run into the problems that I had. See post #35 for what may happen.

I am on dev / stable. I'm having the same same problem with krunner closing after typing a few characters. been waiting for a week, hoping the repo's would fix it automatically, but seems like there's very few others having this issue.

problem is solved. took around 2 weeks, but I'm happy it's solved -- at least the broken packages. now my krunner still does not work, but I think that's a different problem.

Glad to her that all is working and your patience paid off.

As I have now changed to the User Edition and krunner works, I have checked and found plasma-runners-addons installed. I am wondering if this package is installed on your system.
