I'm requesting that somebody please provide an explanation on how to properly install themes. I check out themes at KDE-look.org and i find lots of 'Names' in the list on the left homepage. It has similar categories like "Themes/Styles, Plasma Themes and KDM Themes." Whats the difference? If i learn a way to install a plasma theme, will it install the same way a KDM theme would? I do understand that i can download color schemes, icons, and desktop themes separately, but when i DL a package that comes altogether, i can't import the entire .zip to color scheme alone, it wont recognize it. Any link's to tutorials or guides would help me. Thanks.

Re: Customizing Kubuntu
Eric, I think part of your issue might be that KDE simply has much, much more customization than you're used to in the windows world.
For starters:
Widget Styles
Color Schemes
Icon sets
Fonts
Window Decorations
Log in Splash Screens
GTK+ Appearance
and last but not least Emoticon Themes!!!
All these options appear in the System Settings > Appearance section and there's Desktop, Notifications, and Window Behavior still to go. Then there's Accessibity, Default Applications, Regional and Language...
...you can see where I'm headed.
There's really not a One-size-fits-all theme other than the defaults that your choice of distro gets you.
You can go to www.kde-looks.org and browse a bit more. Most of the options above have a "Get New Themes" button on the same page where you would select a theme.
For example: I selected Icons, and I have Oxygen, Monochome, and Crystal SVG. I click on Get New Themes and I get a window that has maybe 20 or so more to install. I selected MIB Ossigeno and MIB Ossigeno V3, they installed and when I closed the install window they were in my icons list. Select the one you want and click Apply!
I did notice one I chose did not install so the file must be no longer available at the source.
If you download themes manually, click "Install Theme File" and navigate to your download location and select it.

An "old" Kubuntu (KDE 3.5) customization guide > Customize Kubuntu
KDE-Look/KDE-Apps/Qt-Apps/... and why it doesn't allways work

What is openDesktop.org?
openDesktop.org is a network of portals and community websites for open source and free software projects - it is a meeting point for both free software users and developers. Everyone can upload and download artwork, applications, documents and other files....
- Will this work with the KDE "Get New Themes"
- Is this right place to upload
- etc...
