upgrade to 9.10 kills my bash-history - why???

Repeating myself:
Upgrading to Kubuntu 9.10 (from 9.04), I find that my bash history is lost. Of course this is very annoying.

Does anybody know the reason for this? It seems rather strange...

Certainly seems strange, usually software upgrades won't touch anything in your $HOME.
Do you still have the file ~/.bash_history?
