    Applying a theme

    Hello I am using KDE4.
    I have existing themes in /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/ThemeName

    Where and in which config file can I put this command:

    Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/SE-Glass

    to get it to work?

    I have already edited the kdmrc file and put this line in, but it does not work, which leads me to believe that there is another file which I have to edit.

    Can someone please help?

    Re: Applying a theme

    If you are in kde4.2.x:

    You can do that directly from systemsettings->advanced->login manager (or similar mine is in german)->design then either:
    - get new design
    - install new design
    - just choose it if it is in the list

    Hope that helps

      Hello I am using KDE4.

      Intrepid&Jaunty are using: /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/...

        Hi Rog131,

        Thanks for your tip but it still has not worked. I have placed the files in that folder and have editted backgroundrc and kdmrc with the file paths but still no change.

        Any further pointers?

          (This was with the Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope)

          Documentation

          K > Applications > Help. KDE Help Center starts

          KDE Help Center > Control Center Modules > Login Manager

          There are (among other things):
          - The Files kdm Uses for Configuration
          - Creating themes for the kdm greeter

          SE-Glass

          Where and in which config file can I put this command:

          Theme=/usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/SE-Glass
          If this theme is from the > Ubuntu SE and the theme is from the satanic-kde-themes_666.4_all.deb (satanic-kde-themes - KDE login and splash themes) then:

          1) Installation path is wrong: /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/. Should be /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/

          2) Desktop file has the wrong name: GdmGreeterTheme.desktop. Should be KdmGreeterTheme.desktop

          3) Desktop file is starting with: [GdmGreeterTheme]. Should be [KdmGreeterTheme]

          Modifying

          1) Copy: /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/SE-Glass/ to /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/SE-Glass/
          2) Copy: GdmGreeterTheme.desktop to KdmGreeterTheme.desktop
          3) Edit: [GdmGreeterTheme] to [KdmGreeterTheme]

          With the Gui

          Now there is an option to use System Settings > (Advanced) > Login Manager (Theme tab)

          Fast lane: Alt+F2 and kdesudo kcmshell4 kdm

          kcmshell4 --list
          ...
          kdm - Configure the login manager (KDM)
          ...

          Manual edit of the kdmrc

          Chapter5.The Files kdm Uses for Configuration
          kdmrc - The kdm master configuration file
          (my note: it is /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc )

          Theme
          The theme to use for the greeter. Can point to either a directory or an XML file.
          => Alt + F2: kdesudo kate /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

          and changing: Theme=/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/oxygen to Theme=/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/SE-Glass
