    Audio Previews In Konqueror

    Hello

Following old posts in Ubuntu forums, I  thought I would add this tip for Howto auto preview audio files when you hover your mouse on them in Konqueror.

To preview MP3, WAV and OGG files you will need to install the following files in your Konsole (ALT + F2 type konsole) :-
    sudo apt-get install mpg321 vorbis-tools
Open up Konqueror and navigate to your home folder.
View > Preview > then ensure there is a tick next to 'Sound Files'

    Next goto...
    Settings > Configure Konqueror > File Associations > x-mp3 > Embedding
Check in the "Services Preference Order" that "Embedded Mplayer for KDE" is at the top.
    goto 'x-vorbis' & 'x-wav' and repeat as above .

That's it! Now when you hover your mouse over an audio file it should preview.
    Enjoy!

Also, if you haven't already done so, you will need to enable some extra software repositories. This great link explains how: http://www.psychocats.net/linux/sources.php

If you have any further input on the above,  then please let me know.

    Re: Audio Previews In Konqueror

Could I just ask some things for clarification, because I'm able to have audio preview without following those things (I only have vorbis-tools installed, no mpg123).

    1. I'm not sure, but shouldn't the package kdemultimde-kfile-plugins needs to be installed?
    2. Should MPlayer also be installed, since it uses the "Embedded MPlayer for KDE"? Or is that covered by mpg123?
    3. I think the audio preview also works with other multimedia app/engine like Kaffeine (which is what I'm using and is the default for Kubuntu) or GStreamer (also installed but only 2nd in the service priority).
