          ?

          I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex (alpha + 3) and there KDE 4.1 is in the standard repositories. If you are using Hardy, then you need to enable ppa repositories > Kubuntu org => KDE 4.1 Released:
          Submitted on Tue, 2008-07-29

          KDE 4.1 has been released and packages are available for Kubuntu 8.04, the Hardy Heron. These packages install to /usr/lib/kde4 and can be installed along side your existing KDE 3 installation.
          Instructions

          The updated packages for Kubuntu 8.04 are located in the Kubuntu Member's KDE 4 Personal Package Archive (PPA) repositories. To update to the release candidate of KDE 4.1, please follow these instructions:...

            Re: KDE 4.1 - Now

            I did it! Wow, I am amazed it was so easy. So far almost everything looks good. The only problem is that the system font is very tiny. So small I can barely see them. Thanks for the assist!

              Re: KDE 4.1 - Now

              Downloading via Adept Manager, the upgrades to KDE 4.1 as I type. Doing this in my HH running KDE 4.0.3. Will post back after it completes the downloads and reconfigures everything.
              Windows no longer obstructs my view.

                Re: KDE 4.1 - Now

                Upgrade completed. About KDE shows Version 4.1.00 (KDE 4.1.0)

                First observation is with fonts. In Konqueror > Settings > Fonts I can change the fonts, but the changes don't take. Can click on Apply and OK, but when you restart Konqueror (or even just go back into Fonts, the 'default' font settings have returned.

                How does one change the fonts in Konqueror and have those changes 'stick' ?

                  I went to System Settings > Appearance > Fonts, and made changes there. What I have done for now is change the "general" setting from the default (8) to 12. This makes the K menu gigantic, so I right clicked on the K menu and changed it to the classic style, which makes it much more readable.
                  I am still looking to fix those tiny fonts on menus. I changed the menu font stting to no avail.

                    Well, I have the font changes working now. Not sure if it was changing the setting for Medium font size from 12 to 10 or .... but the changes are now taking. (This in Konqueror > Configure Konqueror > Fonts). Previously I had left that setting unchanged, and the font changes I made would not take.

                    I'm happy.

                      Re: KDE 4.1 - Now

                      Slight change of subject:
                      Samba differences

                      Samba shares with my vmware xp in HH 4.1 works fine.

                      The same in my HH debian 4.1 (as described above) doesn't work at all.
                      I can see my shares in dolphin / konqueor but not from my vmware xp guest.

                      Versions:
                      HH--> samba version 3.028a-1ubuntu4.4

                      Debian--> samba version 2:3.2.0-4

                      For clarity my smb.conf file:
                      workgroup = FINTANHOME
                      interfaces = eth0
                      map to guest = bad user

                      [Data]

                      path = /Data
                      read only = no
                      guest ok = yes
                      case sensitive = no
                      strict locking = no
                      force user = fintan

                      [HP4200]

                      printing = cups
                      path = /var/tmp
                      printable = yes
                      guest ok = yes
                      guest only = yes
                      obviously the user changes accordingly

                      Any ideas?

                      Update:
                      Samba shares work in intrepid after todays updates and forced samba install:
                      Samba version:
                      2:3.2.0-4ubuntu3

                      Now for my very stable debian
                      HP Pavilion dv6 core i7 (Main)
                      4 GB Ram
                      Kubuntu 18.10
