where you typed ? you have to install wine before using it. open shell then install it by sudo apt-get install wine, once it install you can simply double click on an exe, this will ask you the application to open .exe files, you can type wine in the address bar.

You need to type

$ wine EvilWindozeProgram.exe

where "EvilWindozeProgram.exe" is the program you want to run (including path if it's not in the current directory). Alternatively, as whoami55 says, you can launch EXEs from Konqueror.

Wine doesn't appear automatically in k-menu.


BTW Windows Media Player doesn't install.

I have Kubuntu 7.04 fiesty feast . Your instructions do not work here because wine is grayed out and will not let it be installed. Why ? . Other packages can install fine. but not wine.

Actually, no he shouldn't add run it as root. It is intended to be run as user. It only writes entries to the users home directory so it does not require root/sudo. If you ran it as root/sudo you messed it up and it will never work right until you correct it.

Also, yes it does write entries to Kmenu.

However, you are right on one point. Installing wine does not install WMP.

If you need Internet Explorer and an older version of WMP (or use the beta for the latest) you can install ies4linux http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page
it is a very nice package.
