They are valid if you are using KDE4. Note that the KDE support for the KDE4 has ended.

They are not valid if you are using KDE Frameworks 5 (KF5). With the KF5 & Plasma 5 the default display manager is the SDDM and the plasma splash is the ksplashqml.
