Move

The plasma toolbox is movable:

- unlock the plasma widgets
- grab & and move the toolbox
- lock the plasma widgets


With the Plasma 5:

Right click the desktop > Add Widgets > Get new widgets > Download new plasma widgets



Right click the desktop > Add Widgets > Drag&drop the Stealth Cashew to the desktop


Now you see - now you don't...

Download this file, then install it as follows:


plasmapkg2 -t package -i emptytoolbox.plasmoid

Now restart the Plasma Shell (either by stopping the plasmashell process, or by logging out and in again), and your toolbox should be gone.

If you want it back, run

plasmapkg2 -t package -r org.kde.desktoptoolbox

Then restart Plasma and it’s back again.

- Downloading the emptytoolbox.plasmoid and installing it.
- Restarting the plasmashell (KRunner):

kquitapp plasmashell
plasmashell

...and the toolbox is not shown.

Plasma 5 installation paths:

Desktop files: ~/.local/share/kservices5/
Plasma files: ~/.local/share/plasma/

My guess is it's a bit of a "branding" issue for the plasma people.

I can understand why it's useful for some people (maybe your touch device doesn't have a "right-click", for example)...or why it definitely should be shown by default (improves discoverability of certain options), but it really should be easily configurable (I would prefer to set it shown when widgets are unlocked and hidden otherwise, similar to the panel cashew).

All arguments I have seen that defend the unconfigurability are really weak.

It doesn't bother me as much as some other people, but I always hide it just because I can...and because I like minimal, clean desktops.

lol, I like your graphic. I feel the same way. The cashew never really bothered me, I just drag it under the taskbar and never really see it again but there are options so thats good.
