Well, Steve, as I've stated many times before, if I didn't have access to Google I'd have NO memory at all. Pardon me a little whine, but one of the most frustrating things is having to look up stuff I've known for years, or worse, remembering it wrongly and making myself look like an idiot. Now, will you pass the cheese, please?

My handle is rapidly becoming a misnomer, as my exploration of IPv6 demonstrates. You, Snowhog, Dibl, oceanluver, Qqmike, OneLine and some others are real geeks. I've degrade to a tinkerer.

Don't underestimate yourself, my friend. IIRC, you were the first one to really start digging into *buntu's IPv6 support and writing up what you were finding. There's absolutely nothing wrong with your approach: experiment, document, learn more, update what you documented. We've all learned from what you've posted the last couple weeks.

You overestimate our abilities (me thinks), and underestimate yours.

Us 'oldsters' are aging. Can't be stopped (well, yes, it can, but the result is final!). What we all were able/capable of doing when we were younger, isn't the same as what we can/will be able to do as we get older. Simple fact of life. Just don't let it get you overly 'down' my friend.

True, but looking back at the mountain top I WAS on and realizing what the things are that I can no do well, or do at all, makes me sad at times. One occasionally loses things in life and has to work to regain them, but one thing I never thought could be taken away from me was my near photographic memory and cognitive ability. But, I was wrong, and that loss is worse than any other thing or ability I've lost.

Mind if I turn this around a bit? Have you considered people who've you possibly helped on the way to the tops of their own mountains? I'll bet the number is greater than you think.

Yup. That's the ONLY consolation in this whole situation, but my "advice" is getting poorer as time passes. That and my eyes have been the primary reason why I decided to retire as an Admin, so my advice wouldn't reflect poorly on the other admins and this site.
