There are several "weather applets" abroad in LinuxLand and the developers thereof seem to not be able to settle on just how to get "your location" into the applet.
There is discussion on the net about Yahoo weather ID, Weather.com, U.S. National Weather service, etc.
Some ask for your "zip code" and others ask for the "weather id" number, but, apparently there are several different kinds of weather "ids".
The "four letter, four digit" weather id can be easily found, for the U.S. at least, by typing in the the zip code of the desired location in the "national weather service" search box or just doing it on Google and, if one looks at the URL in the search bar, one "should" see the url for the national weather service, then the city and state of the location and then lastly the "four letter four digit" id.
APPARENTLY, when one uses the old id in some applets it "will work" the first time, but then sits and spins after a reboot. It happened to me, it is not a bug, it is just that the devs of the applet did not explicitely state that the four letter four digit is what is needed.
Sometimes a few extra bytes of information about an application could save untold hours of complaints on the fora littering the internet and thereby contribute to the greenness of the Linux world!

The "fix" is to use the "four letter and four digit" id, it works immediatly.
Here is an example using Boise Idaho, United States:
AichTeeTeeP /weather/today/USID0025
It is: USID0025
The things immediately following US are the letters "I"as in A, E....."I".....O ...U... and "D".
Simply copy and paste the four letters four digits into whatever box is displayed on the weather applet.
