The reason for this post is not that one cannot, with a little effort, figure out on one's own how to sync the calendars, it is to verify to people considering purchasing an android phone that the system, if needed in that configuration, does work.
Google Calendar, presently, exports a .pdf file which is not able to be modified in a way that I need for my particular use, which is to make a calendar to post beside the doors of classrooms and laboratories to show occupancy times.
To make the actual calendar to hang beside the door I print from Kontact, although it would be easy to take the ical file to the college and print from Microsith.
The point behind this exercise is that I can have a calendar on the phone to check who and where and also to have produced it from within Kontact which is a much to be desired thing.
This will be both a bit general and a bit specific. The reason for the "general" is that Google Calendar help does not have the correct instructions for one step, if one goes to Google Calendar Help.
Google warns that the csv calendar may not properly export recurring events to google calendar.
One makes the calendar in Kontact and then using File/export/icalendar exports the calendar. It will have a generic title of "icalout" if one does not provide a name.
Open Google Calendar and, whereas the Google Calendar Help presently(and wrongly) says to go to the "arrow" at the bottom of the calendar, one goes to the left side of the calendar and down to "other calendars" and using the drop down arrow go to import calendar and follow the menu instructions to navigate to the file and import it, it is an instantaneous when done on cable I don't know about a phone line.
As to the phone:
One will need to have, as of this writing, on an Android phone in: settings/accounts and sync/manage accounts a google account set up. There are a variety of sync settings, and I only use the calendar sync at this time, although, as I have posted elsewhere, one can, indeed sync contacts etc.
One can also sync using a tether but I find this process about as convenient as using the tether. One can also sync images from the phone and if one is doing that with a lot of images then the calendar would just follow en train.
Again, this tibit is mainly to verify to people considering purchasing an android phone that one can, indeed sync a Kontact calendar with the phone.
If a mod feels that this is a repeat of other posts and should be deleted please feel free to do so.
