Recently I had kopete start shading out or blacking out the text messages I was sending. I could read the ones sent to me but not what I'd posted to the other party. I stumbled around on this for a day or two then thought why not just kill the configuration files in my home folder and see if that works. It did work and I'm back to being able to see my messages as I'm typing them as well as when they are sent. Make sure kopete is closed before you do this. So here's how to do it:
1) Open up Dolphin or whatever file manager you may be using to your home folder.
2) Next you'll have to set up your file manager to view hidden files/folders.
3) Navigate to /home/<username>/.kde/share/apps
4) Find the kopete folder and delete it.
5) Reopen kopete and you should be able to see what you're typing again.
Happy IMing.
