how do install the gnome desktop on the kbuntu base system

i have just downloaded and installed the kbuntu linux and i am trying to figure out how to install the gnome desktop as an alternate to KDE.........

Mostly just to run emacs

AFAIK, you can run emacs in KDE without any problems.

I actually run emacs in Kubuntu. It works fine. I don't know why you think that it requires Gnome. I've been running Emacs in KDE based distros for many years with very few problems.

sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude install ubuntu-desktop

This will install a gnome desk top on your system. there may be a better way but this worked for me

An old thread, but I will post my experience. Adept was able to install Gnome easier than doing an update on Microsofts own website.
