Setting up your own DNS server at home

I have set up Ubuntu Server on an old laptop at home to use as a small server for various things including my own DNS.

This was done partly because I wanted to control what DNS'es that was being used, gain a little speed on the most used sites and to learn a bit more about the DNS system.

After setting it up, i realised that I could quickly forget all this as I am not going to keep changing things that work. So I documented the whole thing in a 3 part series on my blog:

    Part 1: Getting started - http://www.wisnaes.com/2009/10/25/se...tting-started/
    Part 2: Basic configuration - http://www.wisnaes.com/2009/10/25/se...configuration/
    Part 3: Configuring bind9 - http://www.wisnaes.com/2009/10/25/se...iguring-bind9/

Note: This is a DNS that is not visible on the internet and there is no need to update any external DNS'es with our information.

Let me know if you find anything there that is not correct. I will also add something about setting up DHCP on the same server later so no matter if you set static DNS'es or use DHCP, you will always get the same setup.
