Re: Free VMware Player on Kubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 -- Latest Stuff
dibl, are you saying, that in order to have any 'Windows-based' program (this does include the OS) working 'within' Linux...one has install them.
Via the "VMware Server" program (for single use/home user, this is the ONLY 'option' VMware provides).......or, via "Wine".
Which I having been trying to use, with no success, unitl I read your 'post' here.
(To give me a 'clue'...as to what I may be doing wrong...with Wine.)
Being a 'newbieee' to Linux (Kubuntu/Ubuntu/'take your pick' (as I have 3 versions.....Unbuntu 32-bit/Ubuntu 64-bit/Kubuntu 32-bit)...............I thought, that in using 'Wine'......this would allow me 'access'......to XP Pro (already loaded.
It does not.
Which has puzzled me heaps...until now. (Simply because I do not know 'how-to' configure 'Wine" properly, yet. But, I am working on it. Your 'post' has explained better than most, for me.)
I am 'tinkering/experimenting'...with all 3.....to find 'which' works BEST..on my machine (s).
Yes, i have 2 machines.
One is a 'dedicated' Linux machine. (with Kubuntu 8.04, on an 80Gig h/drive.)
The other is my 'Dual-Boot' machine. (Xp Pro, on 250Gig h/drive.....Kubuntu 8.04, on another 250 Gig h/drive.)
Everything bar my TV-tuner card works..on this machine. (That's excluding the 'in-ability' to use my "XP Pro programs"...with Linux.)
Dibl, you may have solved my 'dilemma' for me, thanks.
