Using flashplugin-nonfree

As flashplugin-nonfree description tells:

This package will download the Flash Player from Adobe. It is a
Netscape/Mozilla type plugin. Any browser based on Netscape or Mozilla can
use the Flash plugin. This package currently supports the following browsers:
Mozilla, Mozilla-Firefox, Firefox, Iceweasel, and Iceape. Also Galeon and
Epiphany can use the Flash plugin. Konqueror can also use the Flash plugin if
konqueror-nsplugins is installed.

WARNING: Installing this Ubuntu package causes the Adobe flash plugin to be
downloaded from www.adobe.com. The distribution license of the Adobe flash
plugin is available at www.adobe.com. Installing this Ubuntu package implies
that you have accepted the terms of that license.

So, flashplugin-nonfree will:

1) download install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from Adobe with wget
(downloading to the /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree)
2) unpack install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
3) install libflashplayer.so

If flashplugin-nonfree doesn't work:

1) download install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz from Adobe
(before downloading, look at the /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree)
2) unpack install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
3) install libflashplayer.so

Installation instructions
------------

* Plugin
o To install the plugin as user:
+ Copy or move libflashplayer.so into your plugins directory (usually located): ~/.mozilla/plugins
+ Create the plugins folder if it doesn't exist
o To install the plugin as root:
+ Copy or move the file into your system browser installed plugins directory (usually located): /usr/lib/<browser_directory>/plugins
+ Create the plugins folder if it doesn't exist

Adobe flash with Konqueror

As said before: " Konqueror can also use the Flash plugin if
konqueror-nsplugins is installed."

konqueror-nsplugins:

This package includes support for Netscape plugins in Konqueror.

This package is part of KDE, and a component of the KDE base module.
See the 'kde' and 'kdebase' packages for more information.

Very big problem

Before everyone else gets hosed. I thought I should let you know: the latest flash upgrade (r115) my repositories suggested (YMMV) hosed my Konqueror (and Opera)...

As one of my colleagues notes, this statement holds true on its own. However, for those like me too blind to see some things, there are two things about Flash you should know:

1. The latest Flash update fixes various critical security issues.
2. The latest Flash update does not work with anything that is not Gecko-based.

Do the maths yourself. Or just watch it happen as soon as your distribution's update hits your machine...

Solution: don't use flashplugin r115 before there is fix/workaround. Older version of flashplugin: Topic: Flash for Konqueror
