    Isn't that suppose to be:

    Code:
    kde-window-decorator --replace

      I dunno', it might be
      Code:
      kwin-kde4 --replace

      Edit: Actually, I just checked my running processes, and the only "win" running is "kwin", so I'm assuming you can just use
      Code:
      kwin --replace
      Or, maybe even just
      Code:
      kwin
      as you can with Compiz (it's so much fun to make assumptions on things I do not know)

        True if you don't want Compiz running, but I though Dibl was talking about changing Windows Decorations engines.

        Either way it doesn't matter, I still have intermittent problems with Compiz's "kde-window-decorator", so I've learned to live with Emerald when I'm using Compiz. I use Compiz only to WOW anyway.

          How to add more panels in the KDE4 desktop:

          Ktip message regarding panels
          http://dot.kde.org/1199623673/1199783423/

          =>

          Open ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc

          Put there :
          [Containments][3]
          formfactor=2
          geometry=0,0,1680,56
          location=3
          locked=false
          plugin=panel
          screen=0
          transform=1,0,0,0,1,0,0,-1056,1
          - location=3 is the top edge
          - my screen resolution is 1680x1050 => geometry=0,0,1680,56 (square from 0,0 to 1680,56)

                  KDE 4 on Kubuntu 8.04 Alpha 3 / Hardy Heron

                  hi claydoh

                  I know the title of the thread is "GUTSY KDE4 Tips and Tricks" but as another user on this forum mentioned this thread while replying to my problems with KDE 4 on Hardy, I'm posting on this thread.

                  Here are few problems I'm having with KDE 4 on Kubuntu 8.04 Alpha 3:

                  1, KDE 4 runs very slow (compare to 3.5.8, which by the way feels lightning fast); froze three times in 10 minutes (while applying "Plastik" theme)
                  2, Not able to change Black color Task Manager bar
                  3, Not able to bring Konqueror, Home etc icons next to big "K" button (start button ?) on the Task Manager bar (though in a Theme Manager screenshot, Plastik is shown exactly the way it looks in KDE 3.5.8 )

                  Anyway, I'll keep using KDE 3.5.8.

                  Being a Kubuntu and Linux newbie I was just trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong or KDE 4 does not support Plastik, even though its there by default in Theme Manager.

                  Thanks guys.

                    You can rightclick on any app. / folder (home) icon in kmenu and add it to the panel.

                    Bythw. The task manger is part of the "plasma panel" and can be removed and replaced.
                    In the widgets dialog you can drag and drop widgets (such as windows changer) to your panel.

                    The panel is in the early days and options will be added as kde4 evolves

                        I tried setting the panel size with kde4 off to 40 but on log in it automaticly goes back to 56. Oh, well patience is a virtue

                            Well sort of.
                            How did you implement it on the panel?

                              Replacing the original panel-background.svg with another.

                              That is:

                              Grabbing panel-background.svg from /usr/lib/kde4/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/widgets/

                              Editing it with inkscape.

                              Backuping orginal and inserting new panel-background.svg to the /usr/lib/kde4/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/widgets/.

                                OK. So this is only a mock up basically, no real settings. Bummer. I thought you found the configuration settings and setting them to what ever effect it created.
