Re: How to install Flash, Java, and Mplayer on your Gutsy 64-bit system

It looks like Java is not yet supported for 64 bit Firefox. So the only way to get it running in 64 bit Kubuntu is to install 32 bit Firefox and use 32 bit Java extension.

I guess this is the practical implication of the following note to the 64 bit download Linux file on the Sun download page :

    * Please use the 32-bit version for Java applet and Java Web Start support.

Confusing at least for me was that there is still this download file available for 64 bit Linux. So, and please somebody correct me if I am wrong, it looks like you can still use 64 bit Java outside applets, but if you want to run applets which is effectively the case if you want to run it within Firefox, then 32 bit version is needed.

Yes, my Flash is running well. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to help you in this point.

I can only write about Flash and Java - and yes it is true that Firefox does not install it automatically. Additionally, if you are running 64 bit Firefox then you can forget about Java - at least for the time being. It should come with next Java release.

Yes, indeed my Firefox was much slower when I first installed 64 bit beta Gutsy as compared with my 32 bit Feisty. But now it is OK again - due to subsequent updates I guess, since I have not done anything specific in this respect.

AS far as I can see, the information concerning flash in this thread is outdated.

For me, flash install was much simpler:
