    How to access programs not listed in K-Menu

    Hi! I'm a newbie, and I need help! I find a lot of programs listed when I check through Adept, but there is no listing in the menu. For example, KMail, Mozilla Firefox, Openoffice.org Draw etc. are all installed on my machine, according to Adept, but I have no idea how to make them show up in the menu, or access these programs. I'm Using Kubuntu 7.04.
    I tried typing the program names in the command line, and was only able to run KMail.
    Can anyone please tell me how to access the other programs?
    Thank you, in anticipation!

    That is strange and I don't how you got that to point.

    You could try this:

    The first point in the howto is kind of cryptic so I would leave that be at the moment. But have a look anyway. You can find in your /home/youruser folder by activating hidden folders in "view" in Konqueror and clicking on .config->menu.
    It should look something like this:

    <!DOCTYPE Menu PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD Menu 1.0//EN" "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards...1.0/menu.dtd">
    <Menu>
    <Include>
    <Filename>Kcontrol.desktop</Filename>
    </Include>
    <Layout>
    <Merge type="menus" />

    <Include>
    <Filename>Vuescan.desktop</Filename>
    </Include>
    <Exclude/>
    </Menu>
    </Menu>

    The second part is easier:
    Open Konqueror with root (sudo) permissions by doing Alt+F2 then type:
    kdesu konqueror give your password and navigate to:
    /var/tmp/kdecache-YourLogin/ (yourLogin being your user) and delete the file named ksycoca.

    Reboot and you should be fine.

    Let us know what happens.

    I hope that helps.

        Ok, I've finally got things to work! I added KMail to the menu by right-clicking on the Internet tab, and following instructions!

        Thank you for your concern Fintan!

          Kmail is part of a suite of applications called Kontact:

          Kmenu>>internet>>kontact

          I don't think that it will hurt to run kmail solo but that is not the intention.

            Keep in mind (and you didn't specify, so ...) the programs you see in Adept are the ones that are available to you. Unless the status for any of them shows Installed, then they are not. If not installed, you aren't going to locate them anywhere except in the Adept listing.
