Showing edit options when posting on forums

When I go to post a new message on the forums, I have no editing options visible. No bold or italics or formatting at all. How do I enable this?
Using Opera, Kubuntu 12.04

In the upper right corner of the forum web page, click Settings. Then go to General Settings | Miscellaneous Options and select your preferred message editor interface.

On a side note, why is this the default setting? Shouldnt Standard Editor be default??

We left that particular setting at the vBulletin default.
