    Problem rendering PDF files

I have a few PDF files that I frequently read and unfortunately KPDF doesn't seem able to render the documents properly. The problem is that in some cases KPDF isn't able to render particular characters. It happens a lot with math documents, where in the place where a math symbol should be displayed, KPDF simply displays an empty rectangle.

So, what's causing this problem? Do I need to instal something to make this problem go away? Or is it KPDF which is broken and can't render a portable document properly?

Try to install acroread. I think it still renders pdf files better than kpdf. If you have multiverse in sources.list then:
    Code:
    apt-get install acroread

you can also get acrobat reader 7.0 directly off of the adobe FTP server here:

      ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/7x/7.0/enu/

I remember installing adobe acrobat 7 but i couoldn't get it to start by typing adobe in the konsole. So I went to its directory where the executable exists and typed ./adobe there and it worked.

If you want to try out the rpm do the following
          "sudo alien -i *.rpm"

the alien command converts your rpm do a deb file and then installs it. You can remove it by regular dpkg fashion or thrue synaptic etc. , whichever you prefer.

Isn't there a solution which involves fixing KDE's software instead of installing more applications?

Well you need to be a programmer in some cases and honestly there is often better software that the KDE specific apps such as Acroread 7. I use it and prefer much more than kpdf for several reasons. Specifically better PDF rendering and features.

kpdf is a decent program but Adobe built the PDF standard and have a lot more experience in how to render it than the KDE team does.
