Can't access Admin mode, it's off the screen!

Title says it all, when I try to go to System Settings>Network Settings I can't see the Administration login button (but I know it's there, it's just way below the screen). However, if I leave that setting screen open and then go to that same network settings page the window opens properly (it's alot wider) and I can see the Administrator Mode button (but it says that the configuration section is already opened). Not sure if this is a bug or just a weird windows thing I'll have to deal with. I'm running 1024x768 (kinda small) on a IBM thinkpad T22.

Re: Can't access Admin mode, it's off the screen!

    I have simular problems..

Alot of, but not all of the time, when I open an item in System Settings, it doesn't resize the window to fit all of the contents, which usually means that the Administrator button is invisible. If i try to resize the window, it just shows the contents of the system settings window behind it (all of the icons to get to network, appearance etc).

Usually when this problem happens, the "Show All" button doesn't work either, I press it, it goes grey (disabled) and then nothing else happens. I have to close System Settings and start again to get back to the main window.

This problem seems to happen to any of items I open from System Settings, but it doesn't always happen, sometimes it works great....

Im running Kubuntu 5.10rc1 at 1920x1200 on a Dell Inspiron 6000.

EDIT: Another thread on this forum reminded me that sometimes, when I do enter my password, it thinks for a second, and then returns with normal user privileges. I know im entering the correct password because when I try the wrong password on purpose, it gives a wrong password error. Again it only happens sometimes, and it seems to be able to happen to any of the system settings.

      Can't Access System Settings Programs

My password is not recognized when trying to log into administrator mode to access programs in system administration! I can't access Disk & Filesystems, Login Manager, Date & Time and Users & Groups. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Re: Can't Access System Settings Programs

There is a button of Administrator mode, click on it and enter *your* password. There is no root thing in Kubuntu. you would better check this out https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo.
        cheers!

I guess I wasn't clear enough. I enter my password and the system seems to accept it but it returns a "grayed out" inaccessible screen and I am back to square one! Help!

The above statement is no help whatsoever. Why exactly did you bother?

Re: Can't access Admin mode, it's off the screen!

I guess you are referring to bug 8681. I spent 3 hours with kubuntu and tried to get my rt2500 card working. I couldn't because the screen which would have allowed me to fix it wouldn't allow me to get to administrator, it was off the screen. I think all I had to do was turn my eth0 off and my ra0 on but I couldn't get there. I read the bug list and a guy had already changed fonts etcetera to try and get at it so I didn't bother to try that. I changed network interfaces but it made no difference even though I had changed it to run the ra0 it didn't, some script somewhere changed it back. I had installed kubuntu as I thought it would probably be the best debian distro around being the second go for kubuntu. However if I can't get on the net it is useless to me. If I have to go to a command line to get into a gui program and AFAIK even with that I still can't become administrator it is time to go somewhere else. This fault shouldn't have occurred. I am sure that someday this distribution will be as good as the net says it is but, whoever is reviewing it, most seem to be looking through rose coloured glasses and think it is wonderful, it isn't. I installed mepis lite which took all of 40 minutes to install reboot and get on the net to write this. I don't like what warren woodford has done in keeping all his code to himself but having a kde linux distribution up and running in that amount of time without a problem is impressive. So, although I don't like what warren woodford has done he has done it well so I will use his distro until you guys get kubuntu fixed. FYI this computer is an evo n410c 1.2ghz dual boot with 20g for linux and 40g for windows 2000 connecting through a home network to the net. Once I learn how to run qemu and wine the partitions will reverse. Good luck.
                      cheers

well I really don't care if can't access admin mode. I can change almost all (which I want) settings from command line. But I guess developers will fix that bug before final release.
                        cheers!

I'm running the final release, which I just downloaded earlier today. This problem has not been fixed. See the screenshot below:

The alternative that should work to provide you access to the network settings is to run
                              sudo kcontol
from the console. Once that opens, use Internet/Network Settings. It's the same window as the System Settings/Network Settings, but since you're in it as root, you don't need the Administrator button. You can change the settings directly.
