System Settings - Session Manager, Default Shutdown Option, Hang!

If you choose the 'Default Shutdown Option' Turn Off Computer, or Restart Computer, the system 'Hangs' part way through the shutdown. Changing it back to 'End Current Session', has no effect. It will still hang. I have to use the 'Restart Computer' option on logout to avoid the hang condition. I am hoping that this is correctable by editing a file, in the worst case.
This is on an HP-x4000 running 'Gutsy'.

With Feisty, I use K Menu | Log out | Log out | Restart (if I want to boot in to Windoze) or Shutdown

This results in a clean shutdown and/or restart.

The problem is that I changed 'The Default Shutdown Option' in System Settings, to 'Turn Off Computer' and tried to set it back.
It wouldn't go back. When I 'Log out' 'Log out', it tries to Reboot, and Hangs. Only way around, is to do a Reboot from 'Log Out'.
Like I said, I am hoping that at the worst, I just have to edit a file, somewhere.
