    looking for a netbook distribution

mrs. wiz bought me a Compaq Mini 110 netbook for Christmas. Seems to have the same hardware as just about every other netbook out there (Atom N270, 1gb RAM but I have a 2gb DIMM on the way from newegg, 160gb hard drive, yadda yadda). Trying to decide which distribution to install on the darn thing once I get it next month.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix is a nonstarter.

Crunchbang looks promising but I think I could do pretty much the same thing using an Ubuntu minimal install.

eeebuntu? Maybe - at least I've heard good things about it.

There is a kubuntu netbook edition in development that looks interesting, though.

So which distribution did y'all put on your netbooks? What works? What doesn't work? Any pitfalls to watch out for? Hardware on the Compaq looks to be pretty well supported.

    Thanks in advance -

Re: looking for a netbook distribution

    Hi,

I have a Dell Mini 9, the most relevant difference is that I have 24 more vertical pixels (which could make a difference in some GUI dialogs) and an SSD. I am happily running Kubuntu 9.10. There was a quirk with sound though, that I needed to apply (an easy Google search).

Everything works: suspend to RAM, hotkeys, wifi. For extended desktop, there is a workaround

BTW, I installed a customized ultrafast light KDE

    Cheers!
