Network taskbar icon has gone missing

Sigh -- not my week or day.

So I had been using Wicd as my network manager and it had its own widget. I had the widget in the taskbar and had the misc. turned off so that I wouldn't see two managers.

Internet seemed to be running slow and I thought -- lets uninstall Wicd. I followed the directions here
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WI..._.28Kubuntu.29

I didn't go to the end of removal but quickly realized that I had lost my network wireless connection. So off I go carrying the computer to another room to hook it up to the ethernet.

    So once connected - sudo apt-get install plasma-widget-networkmanagement network-manager
Ok then I get internet back but Wicd is still installed. I try to replace the Wicd widget in the taskbar with the original network but it is gone. I would have thought that re-installing it would have brought the original widget back to life but no. Probably a bunch of terminal commands are needed or something?

    Any ideas?
