I had to rebuild (OS) my laptop as Kubuntu was totally messed up (upgrade went south). It's been a few years since I used it so I don't remember which version it was before the upgrade. I am using a Vizio Model VX37L manufactered August 2007. Is there a package I need to install to tell KDE or maybe the x server how to talk to it? It's 15.10 so I need to upgrade but I can't see what I am doing very well so I hope you don't get stuck on the fact that it's an out dated version. This would affect any version.
