How to install a kernel that is in package manager

I won't get into the reason why but I want to install a kernel that is not the most recently updated kernel. I see there are other kernels in the package manager, I see the one I want but don't know the commands to install it. I am using 14.04 LTS.

I am guessing sudo apt-get install [name of kernel I want] but that seems to be to simple and won't do the job.

You want to install the kernel package and the kernel header package.

      Thanks.

So I just pick those two out of package manager, install them, update grub and everything is good?

        Basically, yes.

I picked two files at first and it wasn't working.

Then I picked two more files for a total of four:

Linux - headers (header files related to)
Linux headers (Linux headers for version)
          Linux image
          Linux image extra

          Then it worked.

          Thanks for your help.

There's a subset of the kernel files (listed, say, in Muon) that if installed will bring in the other packages, I think. But who knows--or can remember--what that deal is. Kubicle would probably know. I suppose your way is a "safe" way to pull them all in to make it go.
