Unmounted Hard Drive in Dolphin - Can i recover the data?

I've been a Kubuntu user on my laptop for several years. Last year, i for some reason "unmounted" my hard drive within Dolphin. That volume is now shown as empty. I have done research to try to recover it but no luck. Perhaps someone here can help me. I would be deeply appreciative. Pictures of my daughter and a lot of great music are at stake. Thanks advancely!

PhotoRec, perhaps? It comes as part of TestDisk.

You have to learn how to use it -- see the site for guidance.

Many of us here have used PhotoRec and TestDisk successfully.

Photorec will recover files, but a drive thats "unmounted" will not show any files in it's mount point. Have you tried to mount it?

Which hard drive? (what was it labeled as?) - if it were your /home or root dir, it would not allow your partition to be unmounted, as it is still in use. Have you logged out or rebooted?

I do not think recovery software is necessary (yet), if this could simply be an unmounted drive - so the data on it may be just fine.

please post the contents of the file /etc/fstab and the out put of the command:
          mount

a simple 'sudo mount -a' may be enough, if the partition is included in the fstab file

I have remounted it but upon doing so it was shown to be empty. I do not think i ever recreated the file system or anything like that, though.
