Dolphin now sees drive, however shows this error message:

An error occurred while accessing 'Home', the system responded: An unspecified error has occurred: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

What was the USB HD being used for? When you plug it in, does the device notifier pop open with the option to Open in Dolphin?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Notifier pops up and offers to open in dolphin. However, would not even show as an available device in dolphin.

Now an update: The drive just now opened successfully in dolphin. Perhaps it has taken several hours to open because the drive is 2tB?? Used for backups.

        Thanks for your prompt response.
