menu entry and icon for new application

I compiled gnucash and installed. I added an icon to open the program. When I click, a terminal window opens also. How do I setup the icon so that the application detaches?

How did you add the icon and what is in the icon file?

Thanks for the response. I found the solution. The icon has a 'run in terminal' toggle in advanced options. Unsetting the property stopped the opening of the terminal.

That's what I had suspected, but since you described your actions as "added an icon" I wasn't sure if you meant added the program to the Kmenu or manually created a .desktop file (which displays an icon).
