    where is kiosktool ?

I can't find this app or how to install it on kubuntu trusty tahr. apt-get install does not find it. It looks like what I am looking for. I need to set up a desktop for children restricting access to apps and web content. Can I install kiosktool or is there an equivalent?

    thanks

it seams to no longer be included in the default repos. it could just be unmaintained. you could try installing the version from kde-apps.org. (http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php...?content=12028)

Thanks all. I have been going thru links. They are interesting but a lot of stuff is pretty old, some pages/link are defunct. I suppose I could edit some of the kde config files e.g kdeglobals but I don't think I am up to it. I can't believe that something like this is not made easier for parents.

There is no kiosk tool to be found and links are all dead.

You can still set "Immutable" for widgets. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish...

What I am trying to accomplish is a desktop which would be suitable for young children so they can click, touch without messing up the system or desktop. Trying to limit them access to only things that I want to give them. Kde seems to give this config ability hence kiosktools.

Asking for kiosktools again isn't going to help you - it's no longer being developed. Hence, Immutable bit. Make the entire config immutable of just individual widgets. You going to have to do some research:

I wasn't asking for kiosk again by the way, just explaining what I was trying to do and your link seems to be something that I am looking for. thanks will look at it. I need only to lock down a children user but leave teacher admin alone. The teacher needs to be able to do some functions in the childrens desktop. At the moment alt f2 for krunner and ctrl, alt del to log out.

You can make the configs in the kids account(s) immutable but lease the admin account alone. I don't know about krunner. Log out is easy - it can be configured to require a password.
